Review: District 9 (2009)

Producer Peter Jackson (director of the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy) may be the only immediately recognizable name in the film credits, but District 9 overcomes its low budget and lack of known stars (made for approx. $30 million in an age where summer blockbusters sport $150 million budgets) to become what can, in my opinion, only be called a science fiction epic.

Review: Up (2009)

Pixar’s tenth feature film shows that the company haven’t lost their winning touch. I admittedly had lower expectations for the film, because while watching the trailers, all I was thinking was that “this’ll be cute,” but nothing much more. I didn’t think that it would have a great story to build around; well, after watching the film, all I can say is that you shouldn’t bet against Pixar so easily.

Review: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)

When a shady arms dealer threatens the world with his schemes and the use of highly-advanced nanotechnology, the world turns to G.I. Joe, an elite unit composed of the best military operatives from around the world.

And if that sounds kind of cartoony and silly, then that’s just because that’s exactly how this movie is.

Based on the popular toy line of Hasbro, The Rise of Cobra is your stereotypical Hollywood summer film: lots of bang (literally) for your buck, filled with big explosions, shiny rides, and a general silliness about it all.

Went to the Metro Comic-Con 2009 at SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall Saturday! (haha I’m posting this early Sunday morning)

Great exhibits, lots of stalls selling collectibles, merchandise, graphic novels and single-issues, and lots of LOCAL indie comics being sold!
