Summer Fever, the Bad Kind

Sick Teddy Bear

Sick Teddy by Lucky Oliver

Last Monday night, Sen. Ping Lacson was unable to attend an ANC forum for potential presidential candidates because he “fell ill.” On the same day, Christian Bautista missed performing at the coronation night of Binibining Isabela 2009 because he was hospitalized for a suspected case of dengue. One of my friends plurks about having “on-and-off fever.” My sister has been absent from work for one week. And I’m not feeling too good myself.

We may not have swine flu here in the Philippines, but this sure is an unhealthy season. As if to compensate for all the lost sunshine this summer, courtesy of the nigh daily rain, a lot of people are getting their share of heat from fevers. No wonder there are companies that offer flu shots for their employees. Viruses are just lurking around. On MRT rails, escalator handrails, elevator buttons, and most notorious of all, money. So be extra careful of what you touch these days, and avoid putting your hands near your nose and mouth too much. Of course, when you’re coughing already, then you’d definitely have to cover your mouth. It would’ve been too late for caution anyway.
